Ah, lovely!

Privacy

The short version: this site sets no cookies of its own and has no accounts. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It gives us totals only: no cookies, and no record of who you are. The only personal data we keep is what you send us (by email or the Suggest a maker form), plus our notes on makers we're considering.

Who is responsible

This site is run by Barry, in Kildare, Ireland, who decides how the personal data described here is used. You can reach us at [email protected].

When you visit the site

Analytics

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, to see which pages and categories people find useful. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and gives us totals only: how often each page was viewed, how quickly pages loaded, which sites sent people here, and the countries, browsers and kinds of device people used. It doesn't follow you from page to page or build up a picture of what you do, and it records no IP addresses. We rely on our legitimate interest in knowing, in total, how the site is used.

We also count, in total, the clicks on links to makers, as described under "Links to makers" below.

Links to makers

When you follow a link to a maker's website, you leave this site and their own privacy policy applies. The link carries a small tag (for example utm_source=ah-lovely) so the maker can see the visit came from here. It says which part of this site the link was on, such as a maker's page, and nothing about you. Your browser also tells their site that you came from ahlovely.ie, but not which page.

On the way, the link passes through this site so we can count, in total, how many visitors we send each maker, from which part of the site and by which link. No cookie is set, and nothing about you is kept with the count: no IP address, browser details or any way to tell visitors apart. We use these totals to see which makers and categories people find most useful, and to tell makers how many visitors we've sent them.

If you write to us

If you write to us, for example to suggest a maker or point out a mistake, we keep your message in our mailbox and use it to reply and to act on what you sent. We don't add you to a mailing list or pass your address on. We delete old messages when they're no longer needed, and sooner if you ask.

The Suggest a maker form arrives as an email in the same mailbox, so the same applies. It holds only what you type: the maker's details, whether you're the maker, and your email address if you choose to give it. We don't keep your IP address or browser details with it. The form sends that email through Resend, a US email delivery service, which processes the message to deliver it to us and keeps a log of sent emails for a short time. To keep out spam, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which looks at your browser and connection for a moment to tell people from bots. Cloudflare uses that only to run the check, and it sets no tracking cookie.

Makers we list or consider

Before we write to a maker, we look at what they've published themselves: their business name, where they're based, their products and photos, and their website and social accounts.

When we add a maker, we sometimes read their public shop pages to fill in details like product names and prices for us, and we follow the shop's robots.txt rules.

What we publish about a maker is the business name, town and county, what they make, their statement about where it's made, the photos they agree to, links to their own site, and the dates we checked and they confirmed. Contact details and our emails with makers are never published. What we change, and what we don't says how we handle a maker's descriptions and photos.

We do this because keeping a hand-picked directory of Irish makers is a legitimate interest, and we list a maker only once they've agreed to it. A maker can ask us to change or remove their listing at any time, and we will do it promptly. After removal the old address shows only a short note that the maker is no longer listed.

If we write to you about a listing

We write only to the business address you show on your own website, and only about a listing for your work. Each email says where we found your address.

We keep a short note of each email, on our own computer and not on this site: your business name and website, and for each email the date, which email it was, a line on what was said, and where things stand. We keep them while you're listed, or paused for a while. Otherwise, whether you said no or never replied, we delete them a year after the last email.

You can tell us to stop writing to you at any time, for any reason. Reply "no thanks" to any email, or write to [email protected]. We won't write again. To keep that promise we keep one line for good: your business name, your website address, the date and the reason you gave. We use it only to check that we never contact you again.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, tell us at [email protected], or complain to the Data Protection Commission.
